Perched atop the cliffs at Magemani on Mafia Island in Tanzania, our intimate lodge is the perfect place to enjoy all Mafia has to offer. Have a swim in the pool or a cocktail at the bar and watch the dhows drift past the setting sun. Walk down to the beach for a paddle through the mangroves or a walk up the secluded coastline. Swim with Mafia’s famous whale sharks or visit a secluded beach for a lunch pulled right from the sea, prepared over an open fire. WHALE SHARKS

Get up close and personal with Mafia’s famous whale sharks – in the water or from the boat. It’s an experience not to be missed.

SWIM

Go for a swim in our huge infinity pool, or just pull up a lounge chair and relax in the shade by the water with a cold beverage.

SCUBA DIVING & SNORKELING

Visit Mafia Island Marine Park’s s spectacular dive sites for both beginners and experts alike. A full day trip could include a lunch of fresh fish, cooked over an open fire, then more snorkeling or a trip to the Kua Ruins.

MARIMBANI SANDBANK

Enjoy a lunch of fresh fish cooked over an open fire, then take a dip in the water (or a nap!) on this special beach, accessible only during low tide.

SUNSET DHOW CRUISE

Sail back in time as you watch the sunset over mainland Tanzania from the deck of a boat that has sailed these waters for centuries. Few experiences are as romantic.

TURTLE HATCHING

From June to September, we can organize a visit to beaches where for centuries, year after year, Mafia Island’s sea turtles return to the beach to hatch their young.

HUMPBACK WHALES

If you’re in Mafia from August to October, you can witness the annual migration of these majestic creatures.

MAFIA ISLAND TOURS

From the spectacular beach at Ras Kisimani to the 150-year old lighthouse in the north to the famous Mafia Island hippos, we can arrange bespoke tours of the island for you.

KUA RUINS EMERALD CHANNEL

On Juani Island lie the ruins of an ancient Swahili city accessible only by boat. After exploring the ruins, pay a visit to the Emerald Channel, an enormous natural swimming pool hidden amongst the mangroves.

KAYAKING

Go for a paddle on one of our sea kayaks through the mangroves in the water just below our lodge.

GAME FISHING

For the adventurous anglers out there, we can organize trips to go fishing in the deep channels that are home to giant tuna, marlin and other big game. Fishermen from around the world come to Mafia to experience game fishing at its best.
